According to a study in 2012, New Jersey has the lowest divorce rate in the country. A recent study also found that New Jersey has the lowest percentage of people that have married two or more times. Even so, Ruvolo Law Group, LLC, has found that the demand for affordable, experienced and qualified family law attorneys in North Jersey continues to rise. In Bergen County alone, 16% of all households are comprised of divorced families. Hudson County trails behind with 14%.
With this in mind, Ruvolo Law Group decided to increase our (wo)man power to enable us to be more conveniently located to our clients in Passaic, Bergen, Essex and Hudson counties. On November 14, 2016, we opened our satellite office at 2 University Plaza Drive in Hackensack, New Jersey. We are truly honored to announce that Ruth Kim and Ashley Vallillo Manzi have joined the firm to lead our Bergen County team. Our headquarters will continue to be located in Morristown, New Jersey.
Ruth Kim, Esq. has a reputation as a smart and practical, yet assertive advocate among the legal community in North New Jersey. Originally from California and an alumna of UCLA, she ventured to the east coast to attend law school at Seton Hall University, where she met her future husband. After graduating, she lived in Hoboken for several years before moving to Bergen County with her husband, two sons, and dog Indy. Ruth is ingrained in the North Jersey legal community as a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Essex County Bar Association, and Bergen County Bar Association. From 2011 to 2012, she prestigiously co-chaired the Young Lawyers Subcommittee of the New Jersey Bar Association Family Law Section. As a first generation American, she takes pride in her Korean roots as a member of the Asian/Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and the Diversity in the Profession Committee. Ruth has received numerous awards and accolades, many of which are detailed on the Firm’s website. When asked about what she most looks forward to as being part of the Ruvolo Law Group team, Ruth responds:
I’ve worked with many of these attorneys [at RLG] for years. We all share the same approach – that every client needs individualized attention from a compassionate, trustworthy advocate. Many attorneys sometimes forget our clients are going through an extremely emotional time. The clients have been unhappy in their relationships and oftentimes emotionally and/or physically abused. It’s my role to lead the client on the difficult path of self-empowerment. I won’t be bullied by his/her spouse – or any attorney. I’m committed to achieving a fair result that’s in my client’s best interest and the best interest of the children involved.
Ashley Vallillo Manzi, Esq. will be leading our Bergen County Office alongside of Ruth. Ashley is known for her direct advice and fearless advocacy:
I can’t always tell clients what they want to hear. They are relying on me for honest advice, not empty goals that will lead them down a never-ending path of expensive litigation.
Ashley was born and raised in Bergen County, New Jersey. In recent years, she moved to Hudson County, where she lives with her husband and one-year-old daughter. Ashley has devoted much of her career to representing abused women through Partners for Women and Justice, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice, and the Rachel Coalition. Ashley is a proven leader, having served as President of the Student Bar Association at Seton Hall Law School. Like Ruth, she has also been recognized by New Jersey Super Lawyers Magazine as a Rising Star in New Jersey for many years. Her reported cases include Maeker v. Ross, published by the Supreme Court of New Jersey (addressing palimony agreements and the Statute of Frauds). When asked why she made the life-changing decision to join Ruvolo Law Group, Ashley responded:
From the minute I began talking to Melissa and Laura, the Firm felt like home. It’s a young, professional and very well-respected law firm that legitimately values work/life balance. Their excitement about changing the practice of family law is infectious. We have similar styles – they treat their clients as understandably imperfect people in need of personal guidance. That insight and compassion is sometimes lost in this profession. Even better yet, I am leading this office with my friend and fellow powerhouse – Ruth Kim.
The Bergen County office is located at 2 University Plaza Drive in Hackensack, New Jersey in the Office Evolution suite on the 1st floor by the building’s main entrance. The reception area has a quiet sitting area with complimentary Wi-Fi access and beverages for clients. “Sonia’s Kitchen” is across the hallway and offers a wide array of menu items. The building is located in the town’s shopping and restaurant district and only a mile-and-a-half from the Bergen County Courthouse.
